Sir, – I am not surprised that the young motorcyclist Kathy Sheridan refers to was not checked by security at Stranraer on his recent trip (“‘No to ID Cards’ mantra is not enough given complexity of human movement”, Opinion, July 8th). As a regular ferry user, I can confirm that I have not faced a security check at Stranraer since November 2011. That’s when the ferry services stopped. Perhaps she meant Cairnryan, further up the coast? – Yours, etc,
