Sir, – Recent coverage of cycling during National Bike Week across your publication and elsewhere is most welcome. Cycling has become more embedded in our society in recent years, and it is great to see more cyclists on our roads and greenways.
However, one glaring omission is the poor coverage of cycling as a sport, whether it be road, mountain or otherwise in our media, especially broadcast.
National Bike Week coincided with the Giro d’Italia, one of the biggest competitions in road cycling, yet options to follow the Giro, or even highlights of it, are limited in Ireland.
My earliest live sporting memory is watching the Tour de France zoom past as we watched at a crossroads. This helped foster my lifelong love of cycling.

While it might be too much to expect the return of the Tour or Giro to Irish roads any time soon, surely it is not asking too much to ask for some decent highlights? – Yours, etc,
