Taskforce time

Sir, – The Taoiseach has unilaterally appointed a new taskforce for Dublin (News, May 10th), an unelected and unaccountable body with an unclear relationship to the city’s unelected and unaccountable council executive. Meanwhile we are holding council elections to choose a group of people who will be empowered to nominate candidates for the presidency, select the head of the National University of Ireland, and comprise a range of notional “panels” that select members of the national Seanad, but play little role in local government. – Yours, etc,
