Sir, – LTC Rolt in his book Green & Silver, describing his travels along the Grand and Royal canals, linked by the Shannon, makes a short diversion to Connemara. Here he mentions the abandoned Galway to Clifden railway and considers that it would “make a good route for a walk through Connemara”. That was in 1946.
