A highlight of Wexford's unrivalled Summer Fun festival takes place this weekend in Gorey with a performance by the Australian dance troupe, Visions of a Nomad.
It is unlikely that any other county puts as much effort into entertaining its children in the summer months.
This year 44 venues have been brimming with activities ranging from movies to storytelling to workshops of various kinds, and the fun continues until the end of August.
Their creative combination of aboriginal culture and contemporary dance and music made Visions of a Nomad a major success at last year's World Expo in Hanover.
In an exclusive performance for Summer Fun, they are appearing on Friday at 7 p.m. at Gorey Little Theatre.
Last year more than 3,000 children took part in the festival, organised by the Wexford County Council arts office, and record numbers are attending this summer's events, all of which are free.
Other headline participants this year include the Wexford theatre group Bui Bolg, the painter Don Conroy, puppet maestros Puca & Spring Onion, Daghdha Dance and the Film Institute of Ireland.
Many local artistes take part in the festival which brings art into local communities and allows children to work with them in a stimulating atmosphere.
The council is grateful to local volunteers who help co-ordinate the events. Advance booking of places is required.
Information is available from the county council arts office at 053-42211 ext 285/369. People wishing to book tickets for Visions of a Nomad should call 087-2271738.
