Washington - The senior US diplomat for the Middle East is to travel to the region this weekend for a three-country tour to build support for modified sanctions against Iraq and an end to Israeli-Palestinian violence, a senior State Department official said yesterday.

Mr Edward Walker, the Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs, is to travel to Jordan, Syria and Turkey for talks, the official said.
