Two Lithuanian men are being questioned in connection with the discovery of the remains of a Lithuanian man in a ditch near Dunboyne, Co Meath, last Sunday.

One of the men was taken for questioning to Ashbourne Garda station where he was held last night. The second man was arrested in Blanchardstown and was detained there overnight.

Gardaí are now satisfied they have identified the dead man but are awaiting confirmation from his family. The motive for the attack is unclear, and little is known about the dead man's background.

It is understood gardaí plan to ask police in Lithuania if the dead man was known to them. The victim was found dead just before 5 p.m. on Sunday on a remote roadway; he had sustained injuries indicating he was beaten.
