There were long delays on train services from Cork, Kerry and Limerick yesterday after a train broke down on the line between Thurles and Limerick Junction. An Iarnrod Eireann spokesman said last night the 12.15 p.m. Heuston to Cork train "basically sat down on us" after leaving Thurles and only one line was open for much of the rest of the day.

The 2.05 p.m. train from Tralee to Heuston, which was due in Dublin just after 6 p.m. did not leave Limerick Junction till 7.05 p.m.
