Police in Hampshire arrested two men aged 40 and 24, and a woman aged 36, under explosives legislation yesterday after a search at their home in Farnborough, writes Rachel Donnelly, in London. Local residents were evacuated from their homes during the search.

The three, believed to be a man and his wife and their lodger, were being held at a police station in Hampshire last night where officers were planning to interview them in connection with offences under the Explosives Act. There was no indication from police if a terrorist link was being considered.

The officer leading the investigation, Supt Adrian Whiting, told a press conference the investigation was being handled solely by Hampshire Police and neither the Anti-Terrorist Branch nor Scotland Yard were involved in the investigation.
