Strike action at Tayto crisps factory in Co Armagh has been averted, management said today.

Bosses said they had struck a three year pay deal with "proper and meaningful" increases as well as safeguards for employees.

Earlier this month, a ballot of 130 workers at the Tandragee factory voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action.

Workers were consulted by Unite union after management told them there would be no pay rise beyond that required to meet the increase in the minimum wage in October. However it has been agreed that the basic rate will increase by 4.2 per cent this year with rises for the next two calculated on the Retail Price Index.

All employees will receive a single payment of £200. Trade unionists had demanded a cost of living increase as many members were on the minimum wage.
