The Tanaiste, Mr Spring, has said he will ask the next Dail to approve a constitutional referendum to lower the minimum age for TDs to 18.

Mr Spring published the text of the proposed amendment Bill yesterday. The measure would lower the existing minimum age for Dail candidacy from 21. He said "for a young country with a modern, energetic and well educated young population, it is startling that we have only two TDs under the age of 30".
