Snow joke as thief leaves guilty trail

Covering your tracks is, perhaps, the first step to committing a successful crime.

However, this rudimentary lesson appears to have been lost on one unsuspecting burglar in Britain.

The individual in question was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery after police followed a trail of footprints in the snow.

The scene of the crime was a house in Sandy Cross Lane, Heathfield, East Sussex.

The owner called police after disturbing someone attempting to break into the property.

Shortly after arriving at the scene, police found a set of footprints which led to another house in the area.

A short time later, police officers arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted burglary

The incident happened on Sunday but details of the case emerged at a bail hearing in court today.

The suspect was released on bail until January 28th, a spokeswoman for Sussex Police said.
