Sligo dump St Patricks out of the Cup
FAI Cup round-up: St Patrick's Athletic were dumped out of the FAI Carlsberg Cup last night, losing 2-1 to in-form Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds.
It was a superb performance by the home side who came from behind to deny their Premier Division opponents.
Striker Chris Armstrong put the visitors ahead on 34 minutes but Sligo remained composed and retaliated to level within six minutes. Defender Kupono Low found the net with a low shot.
Paul McTiernan then bagged the winner with his tenth goal of the season. He stroked home Ian Rossiter's 70th minute cross from close range.
An injury time penalty by striker Robbie Martin helped UCD to a 1-1 draw with holders Longford Town at Flancare Park.
Paul Keegan put the home side ahead on the half hour but UCD forced the replay when referee Anthony Buttimer awarded a penalty after an innocuous tussle between Danny O'Connor and Pat McWalter.
Derry City are in the hat for the quarter-final draw after a comfortable 3-1 win over Kildare County at the Brandywell.
Captain Peter Hutton headed home the opener just before the break and five minutes after the restart Derry doubled their advantage when Gareth McGlynn volleyed to the net.
The in-form Mark Farren then put the result beyond doubt with a goal in the 54th minute. Shay Zellor scored a consolation for the visitors with 64 minutes on the clock.
