Six people involved in road accidents in the North and South have died over the weekend.

Two men were killed in a car crash near Castletown on the main Carlow-to-Wexford road at about 3.15 a.m. yesterday.

The incident happened when the driver lost control of their car and it hit a tree and burst into flames.

One was thought to have been driving the car, while the other was a back-seat passenger.

Two male passengers also travelling in the car were treated for minor injuries at St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny.

One is thought to be a brother of one of the deceased.

In a separate incident, a Dublin motorcyclist died after he lost control of his bike and it went off the road into a ditch.

The incident happened on the Fairyhouse Road in Dunboyne, Co Meath.

Mr Paul Caffrey (24), from Glasnevin Park in Finglas, was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Dublin where he died a short time later.

In the North, a man and a woman were killed and another man was critically injured in separate road accidents. Mr Barry McNamee (31), a former professional snooker player, died after he was struck by a car on the Moy road outside Dungannon, Co Tyrone, early yesterday morning.

On Friday night, a 70-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a car while crossing the road at Kiln Hill in Armagh city.

Ms Emily Rebecca McKenna had lived at Ballinahone Close in the town.

Following a separate incident outside Armagh, the police issued an appeal for witnesses to a crash which left a 21-year-old man seriously injured in hospital.

The man was struck by a car while walking along the driveway of a nightclub off the Drumcairn Road at 1 a.m. yesterday.

The car did not stop and was driven away towards Armagh.

And a 17-year-old man injured in a road accident near Ballymena, Co Antrim, last Tuesday has died in hospital.

Mr Robert Wilmont from Ballymoney was a back-seat passenger in a car which crashed into a field at Glaryford.

He died early on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, an elderly man was killed after he fell in front of a train at Connolly railway station in Dublin at around 6 p.m. yesterday.
