RTÉ's Crimelineprogramme is to cease production at the end of its current run in December, it has been announced.

Eclipse Television, the production company owned by Crimeline presenter Mr David Harvey, has told RTÉ it wishes to discontinue the programme.

Mr Kevin Dawson, commissioning editor for factual programming at RTÉ, said:"RTÉ has accepted this and thanked [David Harvey] for hiscontribution over the years. The station will now be looking at future plans to cover crime and will be discussing this with the Gardai."

It is believed RTÉ has not ruled out making an alternative crime programme. However, sources said the station was "somewhat constrained" in what it could say on the matter at present.
