ATHENS - People fled into the streets when a strong earthquake measuring 5.6 on the open ended Richter scale damaged hundreds of homes in northern Greece yesterday, police said.

No one was reported injured in the quake. Its epicentre lay near the northwestern town of Konitsa close to the Albanian border. Authorities estimated some 500 houses were damaged.
