Anti-Nazi protesters have demonstrated against the arrival of far-right Austrian politician Mr Jorg Haider when he takes part in a university debate tonight.

Controversial Mr Haider - leader of the Freedom Party - was visiting Dublin as a guest of Trinity College's philosophical society.

He has been condemned throughout Europe for his racist and anti-immigrant views.

The Anti-Nazi League (ANL) organised the protest to stop Mr Haider speaking in Dublin.

"It is disgraceful that a respected institution like Trinity College should give the Nazi Jorg Haider the respectability of speaking on its campus," said Ms Melisa Halpin, spokeswoman for the ANL. "The ANL is calling on Trinity College Dublin to cancel this meeting and distance itself from giving any support to Nazi politicians".

She claimed Mr Haider is an "unrepentant Nazi" who describes Hitler's concentration camps as "punishment camps", calls the Waffen-SS "decent people" and praises Hitler's policies as "orderly".
