An elderly man has had a lucky escape after his bungalow was targeted in a petrol bomb attack in north Belfast.

The house, which belongs to an elderly Protestant man, was set on fire at about 5.30 p.m.

He was at his son's house watching football when nationalists threw a device through the front window of his bungalow in the mainly loyalist Whitewell Road area.

The area was sealed off while fire-fighters put out the fire. The extent of the damage is not yet known.

The latest attack follows a number of petrol bombing incidents in the early hours of the morning.

Earlier, three petrol bombs had been hurled from the loyalist White City Estate into Serpentine Gardens.
