The Packard Electric pension fund trustees are to meet today to consider changing their deeds so that severance money could be paid before Christmas. The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mr Pat Rabbitte, said the Labour Court had recommended redundancy terms of five weeks pay for each year of service in addition to statutory entitlements. Payments so far amounted to five weeks, including statutory payments.

In an adjournment debate, Mr Rabbitte said he would do everything possible to find a satisfactory resolution but it was ultimately a matter for the trustees and the parties to the agreement reached under the Labour Relations Commission.

He was responding to Ms Mary O'Rourke, Fianna Fail spokeswoman on employment.
