The Occupy Dame Street movement has said it will continue its protest despite a request by the Gardaí to remove the camp outside the Central Bank.

In a statement last night, the movement said it had been asked by gardaí on February 28th to remove the encampment for the duration of the St Patrick’s Festival on health and safety grounds.

In response the protesters said they had offered to surround the camp with metal fencing for the duration of the parade to ensure “the health and safety of both the public and camp members to the best of its ability”.

They also said they were in negotiation with the Dublin city fire service to ensure the camp is compliant. The protesters moved on site on October 8th last. They are demanding an end to the troika involvement and the bank bailout.
