FIVE hundred CPSU members on strike for the past three weeks at An Post are to meet tomorrow to consider new proposals from the Labour Relations Commission to settle the dispute.

The union is expected to recommend acceptance of the return to work formula but it is unclear if a ballot will be held at tomorrow's meeting.

The dispute is over a decision by tie company to recruit secretarial staff externally to positions that were traditionally regarded as promotional opportunities for CPSU clerical staff.

The LRC is proposing that a number of these promotional positions be made available to the strikers.

It also proposes that the issue of loss of earnings due to the dispute be referred to third party arbitration along with and further problems.

The staff all work in the financial services section of An Post.

Services to the public have not been affected so far by the dispute.

The company decision to hire a secretary from an outside agency and pay the new recruit £100 more than it had intended paying unsuccessful internal applicants for the position, "added insult to injury", he said.
