New Bishop of Tuam to be consecrated in Armagh

The Dean of Ross, Co Cork, Dr Richard Henderson, will be consecrated Church of Ireland Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry today. The ceremony will take place in St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, at 2.30 p.m. He succeeds the Right Rev John Neill, who became Bishop of Cashel and Ossory last summer.

Dean Henderson, who is 40, is married to Anita Whiting and they have three children. He was ordained in 1986 for the Diocese of Oxford and moved to Ireland in 1989 as rector of Abbeystrewry Union, Skibbereen, Co Cork. In 1995 he became Dean of Ross and rector of Ross Union. He was a Canon of Ross Cathedral and St Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork, from 1993 until 1995.

His enthronement in St Mary's Cathedral, Tuam, will take place on Friday, February 20th. His enthronement at St Patrick's Cathedral, Killala, takes place later.
