Iraklion - Alarmed by the crumbling of the Minoan Palace at Knossos, archaeologists are planning to rescue the 5,000-yearold site from further damage by millions of tourists. Some 1.3 million people visit the site each year. Archaeologists have started a £1.5 million restoration project, to be completed by the end of the century.
