A house occupied by several east European workers in Co Antrim has been the targeted in an arson attack.

PSNI said a device was thrown through a living room window of the house in Clonavon Terrace, Ballymena, at about midnight.

The house was extensively damaged in the attack but no-one was injured.

The attack was condemned by SDLP councillor Declan O'Loan who said there was every possibility that it was racist.

"There can be no excuse or justification for attacks of this nature," the Ballymena councillor said. "It is only a matter of luck that no-one was injured or killed in this attack.

"Whilst the police have not indicated a motive there is every indication that this was a racially motivated attack.

"It is crucial that anyone with any information on this incident contacts the local PSNI in Ballymena as soon as possible."
