Musician and Progressive Democrats' election candidate Frank McNamara today launched the party's arts and culture policy with a piano recital in Dublin.

He said the party would, if elected, provide funding for a new national concert hall, a new national theatre and for additional facilities for the conservation of collections.

Mr McNamara said the party would seek to involve the private sector through "appropriate financial support for projects to improve the cultural infrastructure in Ireland".

The Party has also pledged to fund a repository at the National Library and a building to house the Asgardat Collins Barracks.

The party said extra funding would be made available for the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Crawford Gallery in Cork and the Chester Beatty Library.

Proposals to locate a sports museum at Collins Barracks will also be evaluated.
