Convicted garda killer Martin McDermott appeared in court in Derry yesterday charged with committing six offences linked to his arrest following his escape last week.

McDermott (26) from Raphoe, Co Donegal, escaped from Loughan House prison in Co Cavan on Thursday and was arrested at a friend's house in Derry on Friday.

He pleaded guilty to six charges which included assaulting three police officers, resisting arrest, disorderly behaviour and damaging a set of handcuffs.

McDermott was refused bail and has been remanded in custody to appear in court again on March 22nd.
