The incident happened on a farm near the village of Kilmaine yesterday evening.

It is understood the man was attacked and badly injured when he entered a field to round up cows for milking.

He was discovered some time later and taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar. He died as a result of his injuries last night.

The Health and Safety Authority said it was the 20th farm death so far this year.
