A person was shot in aWashington DC suburb late last night, prompting a massiveresponse by police believing the Tarot Card sniper had struckagain, but the killing was not his work, police said.
The gunfire in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a suburb just east ofWashington, did not have the signature of the cool, methodicalsniper who has been terrorizing the capital region, aspokeswoman for the Prince George's County police departmentsaid.
"We were taking every precaution. But it's not related," hesaid early today.
The shooting had prompted authorities to set up checkpointson major highways around Washington on the assumption it wasthe sniper who has claimed 10 victims, including eight dead,over the last 11 days.
