London - Marxism Today, the defunct journal of designer socialism, is to return for a one-off attack on the evils of Blairism. Seven years after the magazine folded, its former editor Martin Jacques is to bring out a special issue in October.

The editorial team which first coined the phrase Thatcherism is to reassemble early next month. Contributors will include the historian Dr Eric Hobsbawm (81), the sociologist Dr Stuart Hall, and Suzanne Moore, who recently described Mr Blair as "bland, mainstream and smugly normal".

Mr Blair was one of the last writers for Marxism Today. In a 2,500-world article, the then shadow employment secretary called for a "crusade against poverty", citing the "vast disparities in wealth" between rich and poor, and used the word "socialism" several times.
