Market Update: Weak financials lower ISEQ

Weakness in the main financials dragged the ISEQ index of shares downward this morning. By lunchtime the index was 21.60 points down at 5,713.17.

Irish Life and Permanent led the way shedding 20 cents to be trading at euro 13.20 by lunchtime. Bank of Ireland dropped 17 cents to euro 10.22 while AIB fell 10 cents to euro 11.60.

News of Intel's cutbacks led to further jitters in the Tech and Telecom sectors across Europe. Eircom dropped 8 cents to euro 2.46 while Iona fell 1.25 cents to euro 43.75.

Trading in second line stocks was relatively quiet. Grafton group continued a positive week up 60 cents to euro 32.60, Jurys was up 5 cents at euro 10.30 while Kerry Group was up 10 cents at euro 13.30.

First Active was up 30 cents at euro 2.97.
