A young man who repeatedly dropped a breeze block on a man lying on the ground during a “vicious and vile” attack has been sentenced…

A young man who repeatedly dropped a breeze block on a man lying on the ground during a “vicious and vile” attack has been sentenced to 2½ years imprisonment, the final 12 months suspended.

Gerard Hogg (25), St Margaret’s Road, Finglas, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to Gerard Cummings at Cardiffsbridge Road, Finglas, on August 21st, 2009.

Garda Ronan Farrelly told Patrick McGrath, prosecuting, at an earlier hearing that Hogg, along with an accomplice, launched a vicious attack on Mr Cummings after he confronted them about stealing his motorbike.
