FATALITY: A 30-YEAR-OLD who died suddenly on Saturday night is believed to have fallen earlier on compacted snow and ice.

The young man, named locally as Nicholas Regan from Culcastle, Kilmovee, Co Mayo, managed to get up again and make his way to his home where he lived with his parents.

After relating how he had slipped on the ice, Mr Regan died suddenly despite efforts to revive him.

A postmortem, examination was carried out yesterday at Mayo General Hospital.

Gardaí said yesterday that Mr Regan’s death appeared to have been the result of an unfortunate accident.

Mr Regan, a farmer who was very popular in the area, had been walking the three-quarters of a mile route home from his local public house when the accident happened.
