A man arrested in connection with an alleged assault which left an Irish footballer in a coma has been released from custody pending further investigation.

Patrick Power (26), a member of the Celtics Gaelic football team, was arrested last week in relation to the off-the-ball incident during a Gaelic football game in San Francisco in June.

A spokeswoman for the San Francisco district attorney's office said while it had declined to press charges, it could yet do so pending further investigation.

Mark McGovern (22), from Belcoo, Co Fermanagh, sustained head injuries and has since been transferred to a rehabilitation facility.
