A Ukranian man has been remanded for sentencing next week at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after admitting a role in the death of a man whose body was found in a suitcase.

Mr Adrian Bestea (21), whose body was found in July 2001

Dmytro Semenyuk (26), also known as Valintins Korelovs, with an address at Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1 pleaded guilty to falsly imprisoning Adrian Bestea (21) and assault causing him harm at Strand Road, Sandymount, on July 8th, 2001.

Judge Michael White remanded him in custody for sentence on Monday, 10th March. The body of Mr Bestea was recovered in a suitcase from the Royal Canal on July 20th, 2001.

Judge Yvonne Murphy jailed his girlfriend, Marina Sourovtzeva (31), of Strand Road, Sandymount, for two years last July after she pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning the victim and assault causing him harm on the same occasion.

Mr Anthony Sammon, SC defending, submitted it might be "more efficient" to have Judge Murphy sentence Semenyuk considering she had already dealt with Sourovtzeva and was familiar with the case.

Mr Sammon said Semenyuk had been in custody for 18 months and, as the prosecution did not contest that he had played "a lesser role" in the crime, it might be said he had already served his sentence.
