Man killed in Co Clare single-vehicle crash

A man in his 20s died in Co Clare last night when his car crashed into a tree.

A man in his 20s died in Co Clare last night when his car crashed into a tree.

The crash happened at Clonboy, Bridgetown at 10.50pm. There were no other vehicles involved.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene ,and his body was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital for a postmortem.

Elsewhere, gardaí named the man killed in a crash in Co Tipperary yesterday as Thomas O'Connor (45) of Cloheen. He was the driver of a car that went out of control and crashed at Scartana, Ballylooby, Cahir, at 2.20pm.

No one else was in the car at the time and there were no other vehicles involved.

In total, 178 people have died this year on roads in the Republic.
