A man who raped two prostitutes in 1998 has been jailed for seven years at the Central Criminal Court. Gerard Kelly (30), Leixlip, Co Kildare, a carpenter, pleaded guilty to two charges of raping the women, in May 1998 in Henrietta Lane near the city centre, and in June 1998 at the Phoenix Park.

Det Garda Patrick Keegan said they were able to arrest Kelly because his second victim remembered the registration number of his van. When interviewed, Kelly attempted to put the blame on the women, saying they had tried to rob him of his money.
