A man (73) has died after sustaining head injuries on an Aran island ferry over the weekend.
The man, who was working on the ferry at the time, fell in a stairwell on Sunday morning. The ferry was in Kilronan Harbour on Inish Mór in the Aran Islands at the time.
The Irish Coastguard received a request for assistance at 11.36am, and the Shannon helicopter was scrambled. It landed on Inish Mór shortly before 12.15pm and transported the man to Galway University Hospital.
However, he subsequently died from his injuries.
