Gardai have named the woman who was stabbed to death in her home in Co Cork last night. She was Ms Nicola Sweeney, aged 19 from Rochestown Road in Cork City.

A man, aged 20 has been charged with the murder in a special sitting of Cork District Court this evening. He was remanded in custody overnight and will appear in court again in the morning.

The woman's body was found shortly after 11.30 p.m. upstairs in her home on the Rochestown Road in Cork.

Another woman in the house was stabbed but her injuries are said to be non-life threatening. She is being treated in Cork University Hospital.
