Man arrested over rape of tourist in Cork city

Gardaí in Cork are holding a man in connection with the rape of an Australian student in the city last week.

Gardaí in Cork are holding a man in connection with the rape of an Australian student in the city last week.

A Garda spokeswoman said a man in his twenties was detained this morning in the northside of the city. He is being held at the Bridewell Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The tourist was beaten and raped by a man who earlier had befriended her in a pub on Washington Street.
