A 91-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a lorry in Co Cavan today.

A 91-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a lorry in Co Cavan today.

The man was fatally injured while crossing the street at Granard Street, Ballyjamesduff, at about 11.55am, a Garda statement said.

He was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The man was named as Harry Gaffney of Gallonbane, Ballyjamesduff.

Separately, Gardaí at Askeaton in Limerick are investigating a fatal crash early this morning on the N21.

According to gardaí, a car crashed into a parked lorry at about 2.30am at Clogh, Rathkeale, killing the male front-seat passenger (30) in the car.

The male driver of the car was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

A technical examination took place and the road later reopened.
