The M50 motorway around Dublin has reopened to traffic following its earlier closure.

The M50 motorway around Dublin has reopened to traffic following its earlier closure.

The motorway was closed between 11am and 12pm in both directions at the Red Cow interchange as a result of a truck overturning early this morning.

A Garda spokesman said a 25-tonne truck went through a barrier and overturned on the bridge crossing the M50 at the Red Cow interchange shortly after 4am this morning.

As a result of the collision the barrier was left “dangerously overhanging” the motorway and the decision was take to close the M50 in both directions at Junction Nine to facilitate its removal.

Both the truck and the barrier have now been cleared.

AA Roadwatch advises that while traffic is moving well around Junction Nine, the N7/Naas Road outbound is blocked at the Red Cow Interchange. As a result motorists are being diverted onto the M50 southbound to Junction 10 Ballymount and back via the M50 northbound up to Junction Nine. This diversion is expected to remain in place until at least 5pm.

Inbound traffic on the N7/Naas Road is not affected.
