Spanish police arrested the Dublin man after the body of his wife was found at a villa in Alicante.

The woman in her 20s was found by the police after a neighbour alerted them to an incident at the Marina Oasis de San Fulgencio holiday complex in the southern part of Alicante early yesterday morning.

The couple's three children (aged one, five, and eight), who were in the house at the time, have been taken into care.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed Spanish police are investigating the incident but declined to comment further.
