The Foreign Press Association in London, whose influence is international, this week awarded its annual prize for the best press relations organisation in London. And we won.

A glass with etching went to the Irish Embassy, and in particular Geoffrey Keating, now our man in Shanghai, who dealt with the foreign press over the last five years. Making the award at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Bernard Ingham, Margaret Thatcher's bluff Yorkshire press secretary, said the secret of success was the support of the boss, in Keating's case our ambassador to the UK, Ted Barrington. In fact, Ingham said if he had got more support from his boss in his time in the PR game, he might have got the award himself.
