Hughes Electronics reports net loss

Hughes Electronics reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $132.6 million, against a profit of $1

Hughes Electronics reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $132.6 million, against a profit of $1.058 billion a year earlier, largely reflecting losses at its high-speed internet unit.

Revenues, however, were higher in the period thanks to a rise in net subscriber additions at its DirecTV unit, it said.

Hughes Electronics reported fourth-quarter revenues of $2.281 billion, up from $2.059 billion a year earlier, and above the First Call/Thomson Financial forecast of $2.249 billion.

"Our DirecTV US business substantially exceeded expectations by adding 405,000 net new subscribers in the quarter," it said.
