Wins for Wexford, Cork and Clare; Ireland to name updated squad for England trip

Three of Sunday's five hurling league contests went ahead despite the stormy conditions - with Wexford's win over Kilkenny proving the match of the weekend. Patrick Horgan scored two penalties as Cork defeated a plucky Westmeath side by four-points, and Brian Lohan's Clare kept their unbeaten league run intact, with a comfortable win over Laois at Cusack Park in Ennis. The Division 1A clashes of Galway and Tipperary in Salthill and Limerick and Waterford at the Gaelic Grounds were both postponed. Tonight, in the Leinster Under-20 football quarter-final, Laois host Westmeath in O'Moore Park at 7.30pm.

Ireland will announce an updated squad for Sunday's Six Nations clash against England this afternoon. It should see all or pretty much all of those 13 players released for Pro14 action over the weekend rejoin the 23 players who took part in last week's two-day camp in Cork. Andy Farrell will confirm the starting XV and replacements on Wednesday. Gerry Thornley predicts only the one change to the Irish 23 - Caelan Doris to be named on the bench ahead of Max Deegan.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side ended a run of four successive Premier League draws with a 4-0 win over Newcastle yesterday evening - the Gunners overcame a lifeless first half to turn it into a rout as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette all found the net. Earlier Son Heung-min struck a last-gasp winner as Tottenham clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory at Aston Villa to boost their Champions League hopes. The South Korea forward cashed in on Bjorn Engels' stoppage-time error to snatch the three points for Jose Mourinho's side after Engels' 53rd-minute header had looked like earning Villa a priceless point in their fight against relegation. Meanwhile Adam Scott started his 2020 campaign in the same way as he finished 2019's, with victory in the Genesis Invitational as Rory McIlroy's title challenge petered out at Riviera. Scott, who won the Australian PGA Championship three days before Christmas, overcame dropping three shots in two holes on the front nine to card a closing 70 and finish 11 under par, two shots ahead of Sung Kang, Scott Brown and Matt Kuchar. McIlroy began the day tied for the lead with Scott and Kuchar but ran up a triple-bogey seven on the fifth on his way to a disappointing 73 to finish joint fifth in his first week as world number one since September 2015.
