New world heavyweight boxing champion Hasim "The Rock" Rahman was in good condition today after his car collided with a taxi after arally in his honor in his hometown of Baltimore.

The 28-year-old champion was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, said hospital spokeswoman Ms Beth Simpkins.

"He and his family were seen in the emergency room. They are all in good condition," said Ms Simpkins.

She said she did not know the exact nature of the accident.Rahman's shock fifth-round knockout of Lennox Lewis in South Africa, early on Sunday morning had Baltimore buzzing.

A 20-1 underdog, Rahman's victory with a right hand to the chin two minutes 32 seconds into the fifth round went down as one of boxing's biggest upsets.
