An action for damages for alleged libel which was taken by Mr Conor Haughey and his wife, Jackie, against Ireland on Sunday newspaper has been settled at the High Court.

The Haugheys, of Feltrim House, Feltrim, Kinsealy, Co Dublin had claimed they were libelled in an article which appeared in Ireland on Sunday on December 7th, 1997.

When a jury was about to be sworn yesterday, Mr Niall Fitzgibbon, for the Haugheys, told Mr Justice Peter Kelly that the matter had been settled and asked that it be "adjourned generally with liberty to reenter".

Mr James McGowan, for the newspaper, said they were consenting to the order.
