Padraig Harrington has surged up the leaderboard at the Kemper Open in Potomac, Maryland after recording a third round 66.

Harrington, in the States as he continues his preparations for next week's US Open, is currently in a share of fourth position on seven-under-par, three shots behind Sweden's Niclas Fasth and Rory Sabbatini of South Africa.

Harrington had started today's third round, heavy rain on Saturday had forced PGA Tour officials to postpone the third round by a day, trailing by six in a tie for 24th position.

And the Dubliner quickly set about bridging that gap with birdies at the fifth, sixth and eighth. Further birdies at the 11th and 13th, allied to a blemish free card, leave Harrington well in contention for tomorrow's final round.

Harrington was one of only two players ranked among the top 10 in the world to survive the cut. World number three Davis Love III also remains in the hunt at four-under-par.
