Good pictorial value from Enda

Seven minutes and 25 seconds. Enda Kenny's press conference. Compare and contrast with Bertie, who gave it 40 minutes at his rubbish-the-other-lot fest in Cavan last week.

To be fair, Enda gave good value pictorially. He and Olwyn Enright appeared on the deck of the Heritage Hotel looking like a couple of newlyweds, he dapper in navy, the sun glinting off his nice, shiny hair, and Olwyn beaming in shiny, ivory brocade.

When it became clear he was going to do it right there, it triggered a tape-recorder scrum.

Charlie Flanagan of this constituency hasn't gone away. The trauma of defeat last time is but a distant memory, and he was kept close to the leader on the deck.

The new kid on the deck was the very earnest, very media-happy Paschal Donohoe, the 30-year-old Dubliner whose proudest boast is that he is FG's first nominated candidate in Ireland for the next election. He, of course, will be challenging Bertie "in his own backyard".

While some of the more disaffected media shower were inclined to characterise the two-day think-in as "a two-day press conference of soft-focus shots", the ostensible business of the day was continuing in a conference room.

As a result of the leader's oratory leaking through a door, we can reveal that he mentioned Eddie Hobbs and expects "an all-out attack" in the next election. "For the first time in 20 years, I can feel that sense of urgency out there, willing us on - 'Get them OUT!'."
