Gardai have opened a murder inquiry after a man was stabbed to death in Co Galway this morning.

The man was named this evening as Frank Fahy (20) from Glenamaddy.

A Garda spokesman said three men were involved in a row in The Square, Glemamaddy at about 1.30am.

Two of the men, aged 20 and 30, were injured and taken to Roscommon County Hospital. It is understood both had been stabbed.

The younger of these two men, Mr Fahy, was pronounced dead at 2.30am.

A postmortem has been completed and this investigation has now been upgraded to a murder investigation," a Garda spokesman said.

The second man's injuries are believed not to be life-threatening.

A man (45) was arrested and he was being held at Tuam Garda station for questioning.
